About Brainscape
Brainscape is a flashcard platform built around Confidence-Based Repetition (CBR), a proprietary implementation of spaced repetition where learners rate their confidence after each card on a 1–5 scale. The algorithm uses that self-assessment to schedule cards: concepts rated low come back sooner, while well-known material is spaced out, focusing study time where it is needed most. Brainscape claims this approach doubles learning speed compared to traditional review methods. Users can create their own flashcard decks from scratch, import existing content, or browse a marketplace of millions of pre-made decks across subjects including medical licensing exams (USMLE, NCLEX), law (bar exam), language learning, history, maths, and K-12 curriculum. The platform supports rich media in cards — images, diagrams, audio — and is available on web, iOS, and Android so learners can study across devices. For educators, Brainscape offers class tools: teachers can publish decks for students, monitor progress across a class roster, and see which concepts individual learners are struggling with. School and district editions add administrative controls, rostering, and LMS integration. Individual plans start free with unlimited decks; Pro and Publisher plans unlock advanced analytics, custom branding, and offline access. Enterprise pricing is available for schools and institutions.
